David Bowie is a great singer and musician, and we like a lot of his songs, but Space Oddity is certainly one of his best, which is perhaps why we like this YouTube video so much. It features Commander Chris Hadfield, a Canadian astronaut who shot to fame when he became the first-ever Canadian to go for a walk in outer space.
This video was filmed on the International Space Station, with the lyrics seeming especially poignant and fitting, since planet earth is actually visible from the round windows behind him. We like the bit where his guitar floats away down the corridor, and when he sings 'And I'm floating in a most peculiar way, and the stars look very different today. For here, am I sitting in a tin can, far above the world. Planet earth is blue, and there's nothing left to do...' And so on, with a rather good guitar solo before he sings the next verse.
The video has been so successful that Chris Hadfield has since released an album of songs, but we're not sure if he is actually singing on them, or if it's a compilation of his favourite songs. If you don't mind, we'll probably give that one a miss Chris, but thanks for your efforts all the same.
