89. One Direction First Auditions on the X Factor

There aren't many people in the world who don't know who One Direction are, and if you don't, where on earth have you been? This YouTube video, on the Haleema A channel, is a compilation of the boy's original auditions on ITV's X Factor show in 2010 (Series 7). Often known as simply 1D, these teenage boys (most were just 16 years old at the time) can clearly all sing, impressing Simon Cowell, and fellow judges, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger, as well as guest judges, which included Natalie Imbruglia and Katy Perry.

The judges let them all go through for the first round, but they ultimately decide that they are not good enough to sing as individual artists. Later on in another show, Nicole Scherzinger suggests putting these five boys together to form a boy band. They decide to call themselves One Direction, and the rest is history, although in the final of the X Factor, they did only come third, much to Simon Cowell's dismay. Of interest, first place went to Matt Cardle, and in second place was the lovely Rebecca Ferguson (her voice is like silk).

For the auditions, these are songs that the very young One Direction boys performed:
Harry Styles sang the Stevie Wonder classic Isn't She Wonderful.
Liam Payne sang Cry Me a River by Justin Timberlake.
Louis Tomlinson sang Hey There Delilah by The Plain White T's.
Niall Horan sang So Sick by Ne-Yo.
Zayn Malik sang Let Me Love You by Mario.
