There are so many unanswerable questions in the world, such as 'What came first, the chicken or the egg?' But when it comes to the website YouTube, you can ask the question 'What was the first video on YouTube' and actually find out the answer, because it was this one, entitled 'Me at the Zoo'.

The video was uploaded to YouTube on the 23rd April 2005 by Jawed Karim, one of the website's original founders, who still has the username 'jawed'. Filmed by his friend from high school Yakov Lapitsky, the short 19-second film shows Jawed enjoying a day out at San Diego Zoo, talking about the elephants - 'The cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long trunks'.

What we just don't understand though, is that this YouTube video really is a piece of Internet history and although it might not actually be very good, why has it only been watched approximately 30 million times, while Justin Bieber singing 'Baby' now has well over one billion views? The world is a strange place, but much better with YouTube though.
