The Nili Pod: Good News (23 April 2016)

Nia's Blogging and Vlogging Website

Yet another busy, busy week for the newspapers, with so many of the stories appearing in the press being related to the royal family and the fact that the Queen enjoyed a walkabout in Windsor, as part of her 90th birthday celebrations - Happy Birthday Ma'am.

The Beckhams never seem to stray far from the news headlines, and Victoria Beckham caused a great deal of 'PhotoShop fail' speculation, while other stories included Princes William and Harry playing on the latest Star Wars set, and Taylor Swift giving Rihanna a great big hug.

Victoria Beckham PhotoShop Fail?
Image of Victoria Beckham PhotoShop fail for VogueUsed to both publicity and controversy, when Victoria Beckham recently posed for a set of rather 'weird' poses for Vogue magazine, even she couldn't have predicted quite the response that would follow.

Eagle-eyed readers were quick to spot that there was a problem with the arty black and white photo of Posh Spice standing on one leg, since her thigh seems to get smaller at the top. Outrage was quick to follow, with many stating that this was yet another example of a PhotoShop fail, where a photo had been badly altered, naming it 'Thighgate'. However, after enjoying a tremendous amount of publicity on the back of this photo, Vogue stepped in and explained that it was just the result of a shadow and the colour of the dress blending in with the wall behind, as it was a black and white photo. Yet again, so much fuss over so little.

The Queen Goes Incognito
Picture of the Queen wearing a headscarfJust before her recent birthday celebrations, the queen thought that she'd pop off for a bit of a wander around her Balmoral estate in Scotland. Known for her surprisingly good sense of humour, the queen was dressed in typically understated country clothing, complete with a headscarf, so that she would go unnoticed.

In fact, she was looking so drab that when a group of American tourists began chatting with her, they didn't even notice that they were talking to Queen Elizabeth II. When asked 'Do you live round here?', the Queen simply replied that she has a house nearby (Balmoral Castle in fact).

The tourists then asked if she'd ever met the Queen, and Elizabeth rather cleverly said 'No, but he has'! and pointed to her policeman bodyguard, who was walking close by and keeping an eye on things from a safe distance.

Bake Off Cake Fit For a Queen?
Photo of Great British Bake-Off cake for the Queen's 90th BirthdayWinner of The Great British Bake-Off 2016, the BBC TV show with baking wonders Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, Nadiya Hussain was said to be gobsmacked recently when she was approached to bake the official birthday cake for the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations.

She chose to bake an orange drizzle cake, opting for colourful golden and purple colours for the icing. However, Nadiya's three-tier cake proved to be something of a disappointment for many of her baking fans, since it started leaning rather badly, while others commented that the icing and decorations were rather drab, being more suited to a circus party for children. Well, I think that it looked wonderful and I bet it tasted amazing.

Star Wars Fan Princes Play with Light Sabers
Picture of Prince William and Prince Harry Playing Star Wars gameWho knew that Prince William and Prince Harry were actually huge Star Wars fans? Well, certainly not me and I loved reading this story when it appeared all over the news this week.

The two royal brothers (sons of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, and grandsons of the Queen), paid a scheduled visit to the world famous Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where they toured the current Star Wars set. After chatting with members of the cast and giving Chewbacca the wookie a royal hug, the princes then proceeded to have a duel with lightsabers, with Harry jokingly saying to Wills 'Why do I always have to be the baddie?'

Taylor Swift Get Excited Hugging Rihanna
Photo of Taylor Swift hugging RihannaThere is no question that Taylor Swift is currently riding high in the world of pop music. She has everything - money, great music, gorgeous model friends in her 'squad' and a hot boyfriend in the form of DJ singer songwriter Calvin Harris.

When she recently met Rihanna at the buzzing Coachella music festival in California, pop princess Taylor could hardly contain her excitement and she gave Rihanna a great big hug.

Taylor Swift has overheard saying 'That was the craziest thing - Oh my God!' Rihanna later said that Taylor is a role model to her fans, but that her own audience is very different to the 'Shake It Off' star, and so the two singers have very different sets of fans. Team Taylor everyone?!
